The Atlanta Braves fell to the Philadelphia Phillies by a final score of 4-3 in 10 innings on Thursday afternoon in the final outing of a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, which allowed the Phillies to take this set among rivals in the National League East 2-1.

Philly struck first in the bottom of the eighth inning with an RBI double from Jean Segura which brought Odubel Herrera to home plate. The Braves tied it up at 1-1 on a solo home run by Freddie Freeman in the top of the ninth.

Dansby Swanson scored on a wild pitch and Guillermo Heredia scored on a passed ball to give the Braves a 3-1 lead in the top of the 10th. But the Phils struck again with an RBI single from Alec Bohm and the game-winning, two run walk off single by Segura in the bottom of that inning.

Chris Martin was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up those three runs during the 10th. Starting pitcher Ian Anderson surrendered just four hits, walked one, and struck out four over seven innings. Jose Alvarado picked up the win in relief for Philadelphia, whose starter Zack Wheeler (a Smyrna, GA native) struck out 12 in eight scoreless innings.

Philadelphia is now in second place of the National League East, three and a half games behind the division-leading New York Mets; Atlanta has landed in third place at four games back.

The Braves will be in Miami, Florida over the weekend for another division series against the Marlins. First pitch of tonight’s series opener is scheduled for 7:10 pm. The game will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is 5:55 pm.
