ATLANTA BRAVES NAB WALK-OFF WIN IN EXTRAS ON THE 4TH OF JULY; ALBIES SELECTED FOR MLB ALL-STAR GAME

The Atlanta Braves nabbed a walk-off victory over the Miami Marlins by the final score of 8-7 in 10 innings on the 4th of July to close out a three-game set at Truist Park, which allowed the Braves to take the series 2-1 and finish up a six-game homestand 4-2.

Atlanta tied the game at 7-7 with four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and ultimately sealed the victory on a walk-off, pinch-hit single from pitcher Max Fried in the 10th.

Will Smith was credited as the winning pitcher. Ronald Acuna Jr contributed a two-run homer that allowed the Braves to jump on the board first during the bottom of the third; he notched a total of three RBIs.

Adam Duvall had four RBIs, including a three run homer off Charlie Morton in the top of the sixth inning, for the Marlins against his former team. Sandy Leon had a solo shot and Jesus Aguilar hit a two-run homer off Shane Greene in the top of the ninth. Anthony Bass took the loss for Miami after giving up the game winner to Fried.

The Braves are now 41-42 on the season and in second place of the NL East, three and a half games behind the division-leading New York Mets. They are on the road again; they will open up a three-game set in Pittsburgh against the Pirates tonight at 7:05 pm. The outing will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is slated for 5:50 pm. Fried will be the starting pitcher for Atlanta.

And in other news from the Braves, it was announced on Sunday that second baseman Ozzie Albies has been chosen to serve among the National League’s reserves in the 2021 MLB All-Star Game. This will mark his second All-Star apperance. He’ll join teammates Ronald Acuna Jr. and Freddie Freeman, who will both be starters.
