ATLANTA BRAVES OPEN ROAD TRIP WITH LOSS TO PITTSBURGH PIRATES

The Atlanta Braves opened a six-game road trip with a loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-1 on Monday night in the first meeting of a three-game set at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Just a day after lifting the Braves to an extra-inning victory over Miami with a pinch-hit, walk-off single, pitcher Max Fried struggled on the mound versus the Pirates. He was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up six runs and seven hits, walking two, and striking out five in just over five innings of work.

A double from Freddie Freeman drove Ronald Acuna Jr. home to score the Braves’ lone run of the night on a fielding error in the top of the first.

Ben Gamel was the offensive leader for Pittsburgh with six RBIs to include a two-run homer off of Fried during the bottom of the fourth inning and a three run shot off Josh Tomlin in the seventh. Tomlin surrendered a two-run homer to Ke’Bryan Hayes in the bottom of the eighth. Chase De Jong picked up the win for the Pirates.

The Braves will face the Pirates again tonight at 7:05 pm. That game will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is 5:50 pm.
