ATLANTA BRAVES AVOID SWEEP BY PITTSBURGH PIRATES WITH WIN IN SERIES FINALE

The Atlanta Braves beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 14-3 on Wednesday afternoon in the finale of a three-game set at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA; it allowed the Braves to avoid being swept by the Pirates.

Abraham Almonte led the charge offensively with four RBIs to include a two run single which gave the Braves a 4-3 lead during the top of the sixth inning.

The Braves notched a total of five runs in that inning and another seven in the top of the eighth in this outing, which was interrupted by rain delay. Almonte contributed a two-run homer in the eighth. Ronald Acuna Jr. hit a solo shot in the top of the third inning.

Drew Smyly picked up the win for Atlanta after giving up three runs and nine hits, walking three, and striking out four over five innings of work.

All three of Pittsburgh’s runs were courtesy of a three-run homer from Jacob Stallings off Smyly in the bottom of the first. Relief pitcher Kyle Crick took the loss.

The Braves are off today and will continue their current six-game road trip on Friday night with the first of three games in Miami against the Marlins. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 pm. That game will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is 5:55 pm.
