The Atlanta Braves lost to the Tampa Bay Rays by a final score of 7-5 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game interleague set at Truist Park, which allowed the Rays to take the series 2-1.
Atlanta was led offensively by a pair of newcomers. Stephen Vogt had three hits and an RBI. He reached home plate twice on a couple of RBIs from Joc Pederson; the second of those gave the Braves a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.
However, the Rays rallied for four runs off the Braves bullpen during the top of the seventh inning; that included a two-run homer from Yandy Diaz off of Luke Jackson. AJ Minter was charged with the loss for Atlanta.
Jeffrey Springs picked up the win in relief, while Pete Fairbanks got the save for Tampa Bay.
The Braves are now 45-47 on the ’21 season and in third place of the National League East, four games behind the division leading New York Mets. They’ll open a three-game set versus the San Diego Padres tonight at Truist Park. The first pitch is slated for 7:20 pm. That game will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is 6:05 pm.
