ATLANTA BRAVES OPEN ROAD TRIP WITH WIN IN PHILADELPHIA OVER PHILLIES

The Atlanta Braves defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 7-2 on Thursday night in the opener of a four game National League East set at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

Highlights included a grand slam by Dansby Swanson in the top of the third inning, the first grand slam of his career. Orlando Arcia hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth.

Charlie Morton secured the win for Atlanta after giving up two runs and four hits, walking four, and striking out eight in six innings. Matt Moore took the loss for Philadelphia.

The Braves and the Phillies are now tied for second place in the NL East with matching records of 47-48, four games behind the division-leading New York Mets. That division rivalry continues this evening in Philly. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm. The game will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is 5:50 pm.

The Braves’ four-game series versus the Phillies will run through Sunday and will be followed next week by five games in New York against the Mets.

In other news from the Braves, outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr underwent surgery Wednesday to repair the anterior cruciate ligament (or ACL) in his right knee. This procedure was performed by Dr. Neal S. ElAttrache out in Los Angeles, CA. Acuna tore his ACL during a game in Miami on July 10th, an injury that ended his 2021 season.
