ROME CITY COMMISSION TO MEET THIS EVENING

The Rome City Commission will meet in regular session this evening at City Hall (or the City Auditorium) on Broad Street. The caucus will take place at 5 pm in the Sam King Room; it will be followed by the meeting at 6:30 pm in the Commission Chambers.

Commissioners will hold a second reading and will cast votes on whether or not to allow a trial period for open container in the downtown area. The trial would run from August 5th through October 30th from 11 am to 11 pm only on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Open container has already been permitted for special events such as the First Friday concerts and Ellen Axson Wilson Arts Festival organized by the Rome Downtown Development Authority. Megan Otwell, DDA Director of Public Relations, states that many downtown business owners support this proposed trial period.
