ATLANTA BRAVES SPLIT TWIN BILL IN NEW YORK VERSUS NL EAST-LEADING METS

The Atlanta Braves split a twin bill in New York versus the National League East-leading Mets on Monday evening. The Braves picked up a 2-0 shutout win in the opener, and the Mets emerged victorious in the nightcap by a final score of 1-0.

Kyle Muller was the winning pitcher for Atlanta in game one after giving up four hits, walking a pair, and striking out three over five scoreless innings of work. He also notched his first big league hit. Will Smith picked up his 20th save of the ’21 season. The Braves were led offensively by Joc Pederson with an RBI double in the top of the third which drove Guillermo Heredia to home plate and Orlando Arcia with an RBI groundout that scored Dansby Swanson in the fourth. Marcus Stroman took the loss for New York in that first outing.

The Mets notched the lone run of game two on an RBI double by Jeff McNeil off Luke Jackson which permitted Brandon Nimmo to cross home plate in the bottom of the fifth. Jackson was charged with that loss. Atlanta starter Bryse Wilson gave up four hits, walked one, and struck out two over three scoreless innings. Trevor May was credited with the win in relief, and Edwin Diaz got the save for New York.

The Braves are now 49-51 on the season and remain in third place of the NL East, now five games behind the division-leading Mets. The teams will meet again tonight at Citi Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 pm. Listen to the game on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; air time is 5:55 pm.
