ATLANTA BRAVES FALL TO NEW YORK METS AT CITI FIELD TO EVEN FIVE GAME SET AT TWO GAMES APIECE; SERIES FINALE SLATED FOR TODAY

The Atlanta Braves fell to the New York Mets 2-1 on Wednesday night in the fourth outing of a five-game series at Citi Field in Flushing, NY, evening that set among rivals in the National League East at two games apiece.

The Mets opened the scoring on an RBI single by Jeff McNeil off Max Fried that scored Tylor Megill in the bottom of the third inning. But the Braves tied it up with a solo home run by Austin Riley off of Megill during the top of the sixth; it was Riley’s 20th home run of the season.

However, pinch hitter Brandon Drury delivered the tie breaker for New York in the form of a solo shot off Fried in the bottom of the seventh.

Fried was charged with the loss for Atlanta after surrendering those two runs and five hits, walking two, and striking out nine in seven innings. Trevor May picked up the win in relief and Edwin Diaz got the save for New York.

The Braves are now 50-52 on the season and are still in the third place of the NL East, now five games behind the first-place Mets. The teams will meet in their series finale this afternoon in New York. First pitch is set for 12:10 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; air time is 10:55 am.
