ATLANTA BRAVES CLOSE OUT ROAD TRIP WITH VICTORY OVER NL EAST-LEADING NEW YORK METS

The Atlanta Braves beat the New York Mets 6-3 on Thursday afternoon in the finale of a five-game National League East series up at Citi Field in Flushing, NY. The Braves took that set versus the division-leading Mets 3-2 and ended a nine game road trip with a total of five wins and four losses.

Three of Atlanta’s players had home runs to include Austin Riley with a two-run shot in the top of the fourth inning. That was the 21st home run of the ’21 season for Riley, who was very successful on this road trip.

Abraham Almonte had a solo home run off Taijuan Walker a couple of batters later.

Dansby Swanson added the exclamation point with a solo shot off of Jeurys Familia in the top of the eighth.

Jesse Chavez picked up the win in relief for Atlanta, while Will Smith nabbed the save. Walker took the loss for New York, for whom Pete Alonso clubbed a two-run homer in the fifth.

The Braves improved to 51-52 on the season and remain in third place of the NL East, now four games behind the first place Mets. They’ll return home to Truist Park this evening to open up a three-game series versus the NL Central leading Milwaukee Brewers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 pm. The game will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is 6:05 pm.
