The trial period for open container in downtown Rome begins this Thursday after being approved by Rome City Commissioners by a final vote of 5-3 last Monday night.
This trial will run from 11 am to 11 pm every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from August 5th until October 30th. Adults age 21 and up will be permitted to purchase an adult beverage from any downtown establishment and enjoy it in a designated aluminum cup from the Ball Corporation around the downtown area, states Aundi Lesley, the Director of the Rome Downtown Development Authority.
Lesley hopes that the trial will result in a positive economic impact not only for restaurants, but for retailers as well.
Upon the conclusion of this 90-day trial, the DDA will review the feedback of downtown businesses and make their recommendations to the Rome City Commission concerning the future of open container, adds Lesley.
The Rome DDA is also gearing up for the third First Friday concert of 2021, set for Friday, August 6th at 7 pm on the Town Green next to the Forum River Center. It will feature the music of Electric Avenue, an 80’s cover band. These First Friday concerts are free to the public, thanks to financial support of BID (or the downtown Business Improvement District). The final concert for this year is set for Friday, September 3rd and will feature local outfit Kindred Fire.
