The Atlanta Braves are now tied with the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the National League East, following an extra inning victory for the Braves over the Cincinnati Reds 8-6 on Wednesday evening in the middle outing of a three game set at Truist Park (and a Phillies loss to Los Angeles).
The Braves notched an early lead with five runs during the first three innings to include a two-run homer from Guillermo Heredia in the second. The Reds would eventually even the score, thanks in part to a couple of two-run homers from Joey Votto. Ozzie Albies secured a walk-off victory for the Braves with a three-run homer in the bottom of the 11th.
Lucas Sims, former top prospect for the Braves, was charged with the loss for Cincinnati. Edgar Santana was credited with the win in relief for Atlanta.
The Braves have emerged as the victors in seven of their last eight outings to improve to 59-55 on the season. The Reds are still in second place of the NL Central, but now eight games behind the first place Milwaukee Brewers. The Braves will go for a sweep of the Reds in the teams’ series finale this evening at Truist Park. The first pitch is set for 5:10 pm. The game will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is 3:55 pm.
