ATLANTA BRAVES FALL BACK INTO THIRD PLACE OF NATIONAL LEAGUE EAST, FOLLOWING LOSS TO CINCINNATI REDS

The Atlanta Braves fell back into the third place of the National League East on Thursday evening with a loss to the Cincinnati Reds 12-3 in the finale of a three game set at Truist Park (and wins for the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets). The Braves were denied a sweep of the Reds, but finished a six-game homestand with four wins and two losses.

The Reds were powered by five home runs to include a grand slam by Jesse Winker in the top of the second inning.

Ozzie Albies had a solo home run during the bottom of the seventh which set the Braves’ franchise record for home runs by a second baseman at 80. It was his 20th home run of this season.

Kyle Muller was charged with the loss for Atlanta after surrendering six runs and five hits, walking three, and striking out one over just two and one-third innings; he is being sent back down to the minors. Vladimir Gutierrez picked up the win for Cincinnati.

The Braves are now three games over .500 with a record of 59-56. They will be in Washington DC over the weekend for a three-game NL East set against the Nationals. First pitch of tonight’s series opener is scheduled for 7:05 pm. It will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; air time is 5:50 pm.
