CORONAVIRUS, VACCINE UPDATE FROM GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH

A total of 14,130 new cases of coronavirus and 37 more virus-related deaths were reported across Georgia on Monday by the state’s Department of Public Health.

According to the latest update by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 996,653 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide since the beginning of this pandemic. The state’s death toll currently stands at 19,020. The number of confirmed cases totaled 10,792 here in Floyd County, which has also had a total of 202 deaths. Gwinnett County has had the most confirmed cases in the state with 93,019. Fulton County has had the most deaths with 1,390.

As of the most recent update to the vaccine dashboard on Monday, 9,179,318 vaccines have been administered across the state; 48 percent of all Georgians have received at least a dose of the vaccine, while 41 percent have been fully vaccinated. Here in Floyd County, 38 percent of residents have had at least a dose, while 34 percent have been fully vaccinated.

Governor Brian Kemp held a press conference Monday at the State Capitol in Atlanta to outline steps being taken in support of Georgia hospitals, as well as to encourage state employees to get vaccinated. He was joined by the DPH’s Commissioner Dr. Kathleen Toomey for the update, which may be viewed on the Governor’s website at www.gov.georgia.gov.
