The National League East-leading Atlanta Braves picked up an 11-9 win over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night in the finale of a three-game series at Loan Depot Park down in Miami, FL. Atlanta swept that series, has gone 6-0 thus far on their current road trip, and has won 13 of their last 15 games.
Freddie Freeman hit for the cycle, a feat which was completed with a two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning.
That capped off the second career cycle for Freeman. It was his 27th homerun of the year.
The Marlins threatened with six runs during the bottom of the ninth including a two-run homer by Jesus Sanchez, but the Braves held on to secure that win and the series.
Charlie Morton was the winning pitcher for Atlanta after giving up only two runs and three hits, walking one, and striking out nine in six innings of work. Jesus Luzardo took the loss for Miami.
The Braves improved to 65-56 on the ’21 season and now lead the NL East by three and a half games over the second place Philadelphia Phillies (who lost their third straight outing on Wednesday night). The Marlins are in last place of the division with a record of 51-70.
The Braves are off tonight and will continue their current nine-game road trip with a three game interleague series in Baltimore, MD versus the Orioles this weekend. The first pitch of game one on Friday night is set for 7:05 pm. The outing will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; air time is 5:50 pm.
