ATLANTA BRAVES’ NINE-GAME WINNING STREAK COMES TO AN END AT THE HANDS OF THE NEW YORK YANKEES, WHO EXTEND THEIR LATEST WINNING STREAK TO 10

The Atlanta Braves fell to the New York Yankees 5-1 on Monday evening in the opener of a two-game interleague set at Truist Park. That marked the end of a nine-game winning streak for Atlanta and extended New York’s winning streak to 10 straight.

The Yankees drew first blood on a solo home run by Giancarlo Stanton off of Huascar Ynoa in the top of the second. But the Braves struck back during the bottom of that inning with a solo shot from Dansby Swanson off the very first pitch by Jordan Montgomery.

Stanton put the Yankees ahead with two-run double off of Ynoa in the top of the sixth. Gary Sanchez added a two-run single off the Braves bullpen in the eighth to make it 5-1.

Ynoa was charged with the loss for Atlanta after surrendering three runs and four hits, walking one, and striking out nine in six innings. Montgomery was credited with the win for New York.

The Braves fell to 68-57, but maintain their lead in the National League East by four and a half games over the second-place Philadelphia Phillies. They’ll wrap up their series against the Yankees this evening. The first pitch is slated for 7:20 pm. That game will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is 6:05 pm.
