ATLANTA BRAVES DROP SERIES FINALE TO NEW YORK YANKEES AT TRUIST PARK

The Atlanta Braves were defeated by the New York Yankees 5-4 on Tuesday evening in a heartbreaker to close out a two-game interleague series at Truist Park. It allowed New York to sweep the brief series and extend their current winning streak to 11 straight games.

The Braves threatened during the bottom of the ninth inning against Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman; that included a bases-loaded walk by Jorge Soler to bring the hometeam within a run of their visitors.

But, unfortunately for the Braves, Freddie Freeman’s flyout ended that game.

A controversial call denied Freeman an opportunity to tie the game during the bottom of the fifth.

Charlie Morton took the loss for Atlanta after giving up four runs and six hits, walking none, and striking out nine in five innings of work. Clay Holmes got the win and Wandy Peralta picked up the save for New York.

DJ LeMahieu had a tie-breaking two-run homer, while Giancarlo Stanton and Rougned Odor each hit solo shots for the Yankees.

The Braves fell to 68-58 on the season, but maintain their lead in the National League East by four and a half games over the Philadelphia Phillies, who lost to the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday evening. The Yankees improved to 74-52 and are four games behind the first-place Rays in the American League East.

The Braves have the next couple of days off and will continue this homestand over the weekend with a three-game series versus the San Francisco Giants at Truist Park.
