13-YEAR-OLD IN FLOYD COUNTY DIES OF RESPIRATORY FAILURE DUE TO COVID-19; PLUS, STATEWIDE UPDATE FROM GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH

Floyd County’s Coroner Gene Proctor has confirmed that a 13-year-old boy died on Tuesday of respiratory failure due to COVID-19. He was discovered not breathing in the early morning hours by his father, who rushed him to the hospital. The boy, who was a student at Coosa High School, was pronounced dead at 5:55 am.

A total of 6,836 new cases of coronavirus and 86 more virus-related fatalities were reported across Georgia on Tuesday by the state’s Department of Public Health.

According to the latest update by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 1,091,007 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide since the beginning of this pandemic. The state’s death toll now stands at 19,680. The number of confirmed cases totaled 12,254 in Floyd County, which has additionally had a total of 205 fatalities. Fulton County has had the most confirmed cases in the state with 98,298 and the most deaths with 1,412.

As of the most recent update to the vaccine dashboard on Tuesday, 9,700,802 vaccines have been administered across the state; 51 percent of all Georgians have received at least a dose of the vaccine, while 43 percent have been fully vaccinated. In Floyd County, 41 percent of residents have had at least a dose, while 35 percent are fully vaccinated.
