SUPERINTENDENT PENS LETTER TO FLOYD COUNTY FAMILIES AHEAD OF FOUR-DAY WEEKEND

(From the Floyd County Schools):

Good afternoon Floyd County families,

In response to Governor Brian Kemp’s request that state offices take administrative leave on September 3rd, Floyd County Schools will be closed to all students and staff through Labor Day, Monday, September 6th. We will be taking extra cleaning measures during this four-day weekend.

In addition, we have partnered with Floyd Medical to make COVID-19 vaccinations even more convenient. Floyd Medical will have the Pfizer vaccine available to anyone ages 12 and up with a parent or guardian present at the Coosa High home football game versus Armuchee High on Friday, September 3rd. While the vaccination is encouraged by Floyd County Schools, it is not a requirement.

When staff and students return to school on Tuesday, September 7th, please remember to monitor your children for symptoms of Covid-19 and do not send them to school if they feel sick. School administrators will continue to follow Floyd County Schools’ established procedures for contact tracing and quarantining. At this time, there is no plan for any school closures. We will continue to work closely with our local health officials. Covid-19 charts and information can be found under “Covid-19 Information” on our district website at www.FloydBOE.net.

The leadership of Floyd County Schools acknowledges the stress and concern many of our families and staff may be feeling at this time. As you may be aware, we suffered a horrible loss in our school system this week. The loss of a child, at any time, under any circumstances, is a tragedy. We are heartbroken that COVID-19 has taken the life of a child. We extend our deepest sympathy to this child’s family and all others who have lost a loved one to this virus.

We hope you have a safe and relaxing four-day weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday.

Thank you,

Dr. Glenn White, Superintendent, Floyd County Schools
