CORONAVIRUS, VACCINE UPDATE FROM GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH; ROME CITY, FLOYD COUNTY COMMISSIONS DISCUSS COVID-19, GET UPDATE FROM MEDICAL COMMUNITY

A total of 6,074 new cases of coronavirus and 131 more virus-related deaths were reported across Georgia on Thursday by the state Department of Public Health.

According to the latest update by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 1,103,756 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide since the beginning of this pandemic. The state’s death toll now stands at 19,936. The number of confirmed cases totaled 12,792 in Floyd County, which has additionally had a total of 208 fatalities. Fulton County has had the most confirmed cases in the state with 99,111 and the most deaths with 1,416.

As of the most recent update to the vaccine dashboard Thursday, 9,761,164 of the vaccines have been administered across the state; 51 percent of Georgians have received at least a dose of the vaccine, while 44 percent have been fully vaccinated. In Floyd County, 41 percent of residents have had at least a dose, while 36 percent are now fully vaccinated.

The Rome City and Floyd County Commissions gathered in a special called meeting on Thursday at the City Auditorium at which they received an update from the local medical community and held a discussion on COVID-19.
