ATLANTA BRAVES TO OPEN NINE-GAME HOMESTAND TONIGHT, INK CHARLIE MORTON TO ONE-YEAR DEAL FOR ’22 WITH OPTION FOR ’23

The Atlanta Braves had Labor Day off and will open a nine-game homestand tonight with the opener of a three-game set against the Washington Nationals at Truist Park. Max Fried will be the starting pitcher for Atlanta, while Paolo Espino will head to the mound for Washington. First pitch is set for 7:20 pm. The Braves wrapped up a seven-game road trip out west with a 9-2 win over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field on Sunday.

Atlanta improved to 72-64 on the season with that victory. Their lead in the National League East now stands at a game and a half over the Philadelphia Phillies. Washington is tied with Miami for last place in that division with a record of 57-80.

In other news from the Atlanta Braves, the team announced on Monday that they have signed pitcher Charlie Morton to a one-year, $20 million contract for the 2022 season with a $20 million club option for 2023 which does not include a buyout.
