The Atlanta Braves beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-1 on Tuesday night in game two of a four-game set at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, marking the third straight win for the National League East-leading Braves.
Atlanta was powered by three home runs. The first of those was from Austin Riley in the top of the first inning; the two-run shot was his 30th home run of this season. Ozzie Albies added a two-run homer during the top of the third.
And Jorge Soler clubbed a solo home run in the top of the fifth.
Dansby Swanson contributed an RBI single which drove Travis d’Arnaud to home plate in the top of the ninth.
Drew Smyly got the win in the bullpen game for Atlanta after giving up one run and four hits, walking none, and striking out four over three and one third innings.
Luke Weaver took the loss for Arizona, whose lone run of the night came on an RBI groundout by Pavin Smith in the bottom of the third inning. Arizona is tied with Baltimore for most losses in the MLB with 103.
The Braves improved to 79-70 on the season and maintain a three-game lead in the NL East over the Philadelphia Phillies (who beat Baltimore on Tuesday night). They’ll face the D’backs again tonight at 9:40 pm Eastern. That game will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is 8:25 pm.
