BRAVES DENIED THE SWEEP OF THE D’BACKS IN ARIZONA

The Atlanta Braves lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-4 on Thursday in the finale of a four game series at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, which denied the National League East-leading Braves a sweep of the series.

Austin Riley had a two-run homer in Atlanta’s three-run third inning; that was his third straight game with a home run.

The Diamondbacks took advantage of a five-run seventh inning to secure the victory over the Braves.

The Braves fell to 80-71 on the season and now lead the NL East by just two games over the Philadelphia Phillies (who were victorious over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday night). They’ll open a four game series out in San Diego with a double header versus the Padres this evening; the twin bill is intended to make up a game that was rained out in Atlanta back in July. The first pitch of game one is set for 8:10 pm Eastern. WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM will join tonight’s broadcast by the Braves Radio Network upon the conclusion of our coverage of high school football.
