ATLANTA BRAVES CLINCH FOURTH STRAIGHT NL EAST TITLE WITH THURSDAY NIGHT WIN OVER PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES

The Atlanta Braves clinched their fourth straight National League East title with a 5-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday night at Truist Park. That win resulted in a clean sweep of the Phillies for the Braves, who have won their last six straight games.

Offensive highlights of the night included a lead-off home run by Jorge Soler in the bottom of the first inning and a solo shot by Austin Riley in the fourth.

Ian Anderson secured the win for Atlanta after giving up two runs and three hits, walking three, and striking out two in six innings. Will Smith picked up the save; that was his 37th of the year. Kyle Gibson was charged with the loss for Philadelphia.

The Braves will conclude the 2021 regular season with a three-game NL East series versus the New York Mets at Truist Park over the weekend. First pitch of tonight’s opener is set for 7:20 pm. The outing will not air on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM due to coverage of high school football. WLAQ will, however, join the Atlanta Braves Radio Network for the final two games of that series on Saturday night and Sunday.
