COMMUNITY LOSES ONE OF ITS GREATEST CHEERLEADERS, WLAQ LOSES ITS FEARLESS LEADER…REST IN PEACE, RANDY DAVIS

The community has lost one of its greatest cheerleaders, WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM has lost its fearless leader.

Randy Davis passed away on Friday, October 1st at age 74, just weeks from what would have been his 75th birthday on October 31st.

Davis’ career in broadcasting spanned more than five decades. He assumed ownership of WLAQ on April 1, 1987.

In addition to broadcasting, his passions included this community of Rome and Floyd County and baseball. He was instrumental in the efforts to bring minor league baseball to town.

He garnered many accolades over the years, including induction to the Rome-Floyd Sports Hall of Fame in 1997 and the Heart of the Community Award in 2004.

A celebration of the life of Randy Davis will be held on Wednesday, October 6th at 2 pm at State Mutual Stadium, the home of the Rome Braves. Daniels Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
