CORONAVIRUS, VACCINE UPDATE FROM GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH

A total of 1,522 new cases of coronavirus and 93 more virus-related deaths were reported in Georgia on Wednesday by the state’s Department of Public Health.

According to the latest update by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 1,261,729 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide since the beginning of this pandemic. The state’s death toll now stands at 24,602. The number of confirmed cases totaled 15,410 in Floyd County, which has additionally had a total of 301 deaths. Gwinnett County has had the most confirmed cases in the state with 111,682. Fulton County has had the most deaths with 1,622.

The DPH noted that the Daily Status Report on Wednesday included 924 new cases dating back to June; the backlog falsely inflates the daily case reporting and impacts case numbers in and around Cherokee County.

As of the most recent update to the DPH’s vaccine dashboard on Wednesday, 11,197,959 vaccines have been administered across this state; 56 percent of Georgians have received at least a dose of the vaccine, while 50 percent have been fully vaccinated. Here in Floyd County, 46 percent of residents have had at least a dose, while 42 percent are now fully vaccinated.
