ROME SEVEN HILLS ROTARY CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT BEGINS ON WEDNESDAY; 68TH EDITION ANTICIPATED TO BE EMOTIONAL FOR WLAQ IN LIGHT OF RECENT PASSING OF RANDY DAVIS

Area girls’ and boys’ high school basketball teams will compete for a coveted Gold Ball trophy in the Rome Seven Hills Rotary Christmas Tournament this week. The tournament, in its 68th year, will start on Wednesday at Armuchee High School and will culminate with the championship round on Saturday at Berry College’s Cage Center.

WLAQ’s late owner Randy Davis, who passed away on October 1st, 2021 at the age of 74, was awarded a Gold Ball trophy back in 2014 in recognition of his broadcast contributions to the tournament throughout the years. Matt, his son, reflects that it was an emotional moment.

Providing broadcast coverage of this year’s tournament is also anticipated to be emotionally charged for the Davis family and friends, says Matt.

The participating schools for this year include Armuchee, Coosa, Chattooga, Darlington, Model, Pepperell, Rome, Unity Christian, and Woodland.
