The United Way of Rome and Floyd County wants to bring Santa Claus to your doorstep this Christmas Eve.
A giant handmade folk art Santa is up for auction by the organization in an effort to prevent homelessness in Floyd County. That Santa is now stationed at the corner of Broad Street and 6th Avenue. Bids may be placed at various locations around town, such as Swift & Finch Coffee, Schroeder’s New Deli, and Do Good Boutique, according to Alli Mitchell, Executive Director, who adds that proceeds will support housing access in the community, along with a new eviction mediation program slated to begin in January.
Concerned citizens may also bid on Santa at Doug’s Deli Downtown, as well as at City Hall, says Mitchell. Bids will be accepted until 5 pm on Thursday, December 23rd. The giant Santa Claus will be delivered to the highest bidder on Christmas Eve.
This Santa Claus is a part of the Sidewalk Santa Takeover hosted during this holiday season by Rome’s Downtown Development Authority.
