It felt more like the first day of Spring rather than January 1st in Northwest Georgia on New Years Day ’22. Locals enjoyed some outdoor activities amid unseasonably warm temperatures and a break in the rain.
The annual Polar Plunge returned to Rolator Park in Cave Spring on Saturday afternoon. More than 50 individuals took the plunge during the event, hosted by the Cave Spring Historical Society.
Missey Gomez, who serves with the Board of Directors for the Cave Spring Downtown Development Authority, jumped into the chilly waters of Rolator Lake with her five-year-old grandson Tyler McCollum. She attests that it felt great, and they would absolutely do it again.
This year’s Polar Plunge netted about $1,700 for the Cave Spring Historical Society, according to member Billy Wayne Abernathy.
Other outdoor activities on New Years Day in Floyd County included a First Day Hike hosted by Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation and TRED of Rome and Floyd County at Lock and Dam Park.
