COOSA HIGH JUNIOR NAMED A YALE YOUNG GLOBAL SCHOLAR

(Media release from the Floyd County Schools):

Coosa High junior Kenzie Nguyen is one of a select group of students worldwide who have been chosen to take part in Yale University’s Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) program this summer! YYGS is one of the most globally diverse, two-week academic summer programs in the world. Serving over 2,000 students from 150+ countries and all 50 U.S. states, YYGS distributes over $3 Million USD in need-based financial aid to both domestic and international students.

In order to maintain the global diversity of YYGS 2022, they will host all sessions online this summer. The virtual program is designed to be globally diverse and, according to Yale, “as rigorous and intellectually rewarding as [their] on-campus experience.” All components of YYGS Online are live (not recorded), and the program offers morning and evening schedule options to accommodate all time zones around the world. Students join together with peers to participate in a range of dynamic, engaging activities that give them direct access to Yale faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as campus resources.

YYGS curriculum is highly collaborative, exposing participants to innovative topics while facilitating student discussions shaped by international perspectives. Students have the opportunity to participate in a STEM, social sciences, humanities, or cross-disciplinary track. Kenzie will be participating in session three’s Politics, Law, and Economics Unit. Following high school, Kenzie plans to pursue a degree in either political science or philosophy, and then attend law school to become a criminal defense attorney.
