ROME’S ICONIC CLOCKTOWER TURNS 150 YEARS OLD IN 2022

Rome’s iconic Clocktower turns 150 years old in 2022, and locals are invited to join a year-long celebration of the milestone.

Kristi Kent, the Director of Communications for the Georgia’s Rome Office of Tourism, says that the waterworks at the Clocktower were constructed due to the need for a pressurized source of water to extinguish fires in downtown Rome. A celebration and rededication of the waterworks and the Clocktower will take place on Thursday, January 27th.

The structure was very controversial at the time it was constructed, as many people were afraid of the new technology, adds Kent. Ghosts from the past who made the Clocktower possible will be making special appearances at the January 27th celebration.
