ROME SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA MAKES FIRST COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE RECORDING

(Media release from the Rome Symphony Orchestra):

The Rome Symphony Orchestra will make history at their next concert. For the first time in its 100-year run as the “oldest symphony in the South”, the orchestra will make a commercially available recording of a live performance. Music for a New Year: Bach, Berlioz and Beethoven will be presented by the RSO on Saturday, March 5th, 2022, at 7 p.m.at the Bell Recital Hall within the Ford Complex at Berry College.

The orchestra will be joined by world-renowned Brazilian flautist and Universal Music Group artist, James Strauss, to present traditional classics by Bach and Berlioz, and Beethoven’s 8th symphony. “James Strauss is one of the greatest flautists in the world, and I could not be more excited for him to perform with the Rome Symphony Orchestra,” says symphony Maestro, Jeffrey Dokken. “There is no better way to commemorate our 100th Anniversary than to release a CD of spectacular music by Bach, Berlioz, and Beethoven, and we look forward to sharing the live recording experience with our audience members.”

This program is a reschedule of the January 8th concert that was postponed due to rising COVID-19 cases at the start of the year. With a new date and location, the Rome Symphony hopes to have a large audience to support the energy of the musicians onstage during the live recording. Rome Symphony Orchestra Board President, Liz Tierney, encourages all symphony supporters and new audience members to attend. “This concert promises to be one you will always remember – from the wonderful acoustics in the Bell Recital Hall to our outstanding orchestra to our talented guest artist – don’t miss this unique opportunity to be present at this historic event!”

The 21-22 season is the 100th anniversary season of the Rome Symphony Orchestra. In homage, the entire season slate pays tribute to all the “greatest hits” in music over the last one hundred years: from the introduction of music into the movies, the advent of Broadway, the rise of Aaron Copland and more. To mark the occasion of the centennial birthday, the Rome Symphony is hosting a Derby themed celebration set for May 7th, 2022, at the Mill in Lindale.

Tickets for the performance are available online at www.romesymphony.org, at the concert on the evening of the performance, and at both locations of the Georgia’s Rome Gift Shop and Welcome Centers (cash or check only) located at Jackson Hill and Downtown on Tribune Street.
