ROME TO HOST YOUTH ALL-STAR BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS

Rome will be playing host to some all-star basketball games starting on Friday, Feb. 18 as the Georgia Recreation and Park Association Class A 8U and 10U boys’ basketball tournament will take place.

The 8U tournament will be played at the Gilbreath Recreation Center in Lindale and feature 11 teams, including two teams representing Rome playing in a single-elimination tournament for the right to advance to the district tournament.

Games begin on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. with the finals scheduled to start on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m.

The 10U boy’s tournament will be played at the Thornton Center in Armuchee. The tournament features 13 teams, including three representing Rome, playing for the right to advance to the district tournament. Games begin on Friday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. with the finals set for Thursday, Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m.

Along with the two 8U boys’ all-star teams and three 10U boys’ all-star teams, Rome has another eight teams headed to all-star tournaments in the area.

Two 8U girls’ teams and two 10U girls’ teams all representing Rome will be playing in their tournament in Whitfield County starting on Feb. 21.

Two 12U boys’ teams representing Rome will be playing in their tournament in Paulding County beginning on Feb. 18, and one 12U girls’ team and one 14U boys’ team will be playing in their tournaments in Bartow County beginning on Feb. 22 and Feb. 21, respectively.

“We had a great season of basketball, and we are very excited for our all-star teams to be able to go to these tournaments and represent Rome and Floyd County,” RFPRA Director Todd Wofford says. “We’re also pleased that we can host two different tournaments and bring several teams and their families to Rome. I hope people come out and see our teams and all the teams compete.”
