GEORGIA’S ARBOR DAY IS THIS FRIDAY, LOCAL CELEBRATION IS SET FOR THURSDAY – AND ORGANIZERS ARE KEEPING AN EYE ON THE FORECAST!

Arbor Day will be observed in Georgia this Friday, February 18th. The local observance of Arbor Day has been scheduled for this Thursday, February 17th at 1 pm on West 1st Street behind Synovus Bank in downtown Rome.

Hannah Bagley, Director of Keep Rome-Floyd Beautiful, is very aware that the weather forecast for this Thursday is not favorable for an outdoor event; if necessary, the ceremony will be moved indoors. She encourages the public to stay tuned to KRFB’s social media outlets for the latest updates.

The City of Rome recently planted 14 trees around the downtown area; these additions to the tree canopy will be celebrated with speeches by local leaders.

This marks the city’s 32nd year as a Tree City USA and the 14th time that it has received the growth award.

Trees offer many benefits, says Bagley. Those include a habitat for wildlife, cleaner air, shade, and beauty.

Georgia’s Arbor Day is celebrated during February because that is our state’s planting season, according to Bagley.

Arbor Day is celebrated every year in the Peach State on the third Friday of February. National Arbor Day occurs each April.
