IT’S ARBOR DAY IN GEORGIA! LOCAL OBSERVANCE WAS HELD ON THURSDAY

Today is Georgia’s Arbor Day. The local observance of Arbor Day took place Thursday with a special ceremony behind Synovus Bank in downtown Rome that was organized by Keep Rome-Floyd Beautiful.

This marks the City of Rome’s 32nd year as a Tree City USA and the 14th time that it has received the growth award, says Hannah Bagley, KRFB Director.

Arbor Day is celebrated every year in the Peach State on the third Friday of February. National Arbor Day occurs each April. The observation originated in Nebraska in the the late 1800s, asserts Bagley.

Georgia’s Arbor Day is celebrated during February because that is our state’s planting season, according to Bagley.

KRFB, in cooperation with South Rome Alliance and the City of Rome Tree Board, has planned a Beautification Day event for today at Covington Park.
