LOCAL STUDENTS TO SHOWCASE THEIR CREATIVITY IN 2022 CARDBOARD CHALLENGE TO BE HOSTED BY COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS OF ROME-FLOYD COUNTY IN MARCH

Local students will show off their creativity at the ’22 Cardboard Challenge to be hosted by Communities in Schools of Rome and Floyd County in March.

Gregory Wooten, CIS Executive Director, states that 155 creations have been entered into this year’s contest. Judging at individual schools is slated to take place on March 22nd. The final challenge is set for March 25th.

The Cardboard Challenge blends STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) concepts with innovation and teamwork. Materials used must be 100 percent recyclable. The students compete in the categories of games, structures, and transportation, asserts Wooten.

Competitors come up with some innovative creations, indicates Wooten, who adds that the Cardboard Challenge is a great training ground for the world of work that these students will one day enter.

First, second, and third place winners will be rewarded with prizes like pizza parties and cash.

Upon the conclusion of the Cardboard Challenge, Wooten says that pictures of the kids’ creations will be shared on the CIS website and social media.

The Rome City Schools’ elementary, middle, and high schools are among this year’s participants. Wooten hopes to draw interest from other local schools in future challenges.
