ECONOMIC IMPACT OF TOURISM INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY IN 2021, ACCORDING TO TOURISM OFFICE

Tourism experienced a significant uptick in ’21 for Rome and Floyd County. According to Kristi Kent, the Director of Communications for the Georgia’s Rome Office of Tourism, its economic impact rose last year by 116 percent from 2020, the year in which tourism took a big hit globally due to COVID-19.

Rome River Jam generated the greatest economic impact in 2021, followed very closely by the Wings Over North Georgia air show headlined by the US Navy’s Blue Angels.

The economic impact of tourism on this community totaled over $19 million, says Kent, who adds that local tourism numbers are a year ahead of the state’s numbers. State data is more comprehensive.
