MODEL BLUE DEVILS’ SEASON DRAWS TO A HEARTBREAKING CONCLUSION IN ELITE EIGHT OF STATE TOURNEY

The Model High School boys basketball team’s season drew to a close with an overtime loss on their home court to Woodville Tompkins by a final score of 54-51 on Wednesday evening in the Elite Eight round of the GHSA’s Class AA state tournament.

The Blue Devils took an early lead – by as much as 20 points during the first half – but the Wolverines came charging back in the second half. A 3-pointer by Model’s Dane Fisher tied the game up at 47-47 with only seconds to go in regulation, but Woodville-Tompkins prevailed in OT.

Thus ends a remarkable 2021-2022 season for the Blue Devils, who finished with a record of 22-7 and their first trip to the quarterfinal round of the state tourney since 2015. WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM salutes the Blue Devils on a job well done!
