LOCAL NON-PROFIT BRIGHTER BIRTHDAYS CELEBRATING SIX YEARS OF SERVICE WITH THE BRIGHTER BIRTHDAYS DESSERT CHALLENGE ON MARCH 27TH

Local non-profit organization Brighter Birthdays is celebrating six years of making birthdays brighter for underresourced children here in Rome/Floyd County. And no celebration is complete without dessert! Thus, the Brighter Birthdays Dessert Challenge will take place on Sunday, March 27th at 3 pm at the Newby Tasting Room, 411 Broad Street.

Cristin Warden, founder of Brighter Birthdays, says that five local celebrities will team with culinary professionals to compete for prizes and, of course, the bragging rights.

A very limited number of tickets remained available for the event as of late last week; they range in price from $50 to $150 and may be purchased via a link on the Brighter Birthdays Facebook page. Supporters may also vote for their favorite team in the competition; votes are $1 each with all proceeds to benefit Brighter Birthdays.

Mimi Weed is co-owner of Mel & Mimi women’s boutique and a member of Team “The Boutique Bakers”. She and Melanie Morris (the ‘Mel’ in Mel & Mimi) are excited to team with Megan Ware of Honeymoon Bakery, who is a championship-caliber baker. They have taken to Facebook in recent weeks to rally for the public’s support of the team and the cause, says Weed.

Laura Walley, Principal of Elm Street Elementary School, is a part of Team ‘The Sugar Bakers on Elm Street’. She says that Brighter Birthdays has made a ‘huge impact’ on Elm Street students over the past six years.

Competitors in the Brighter Birthdays Dessert Challenge also include Team “Grape American Baking Show”, Team “Sweet Tooth”, and Team “Wake Me Up Before You GoGo”. Again, the public may vote for their favorite via the link on Brighter Birthdays’ Facebook page.
