ROME CITY SCHOOLS BOARD HOLDS MARCH MEETING, APPROVES APPOINTMENT OF JENNIFER ULDRICK AS PRINCIPAL AT WEST CENTRAL ELEMENTARY

(Media release from Rome City Schools):

Rome City Schools’ Board Members discussed several items of business during their scheduled March 2022 meeting.

The search for a replacement for Louis Byars, current Superintendent of Schools to retire in May, will be conducted using a process headed by the Georgia School Board Association. The Board heard from Sam King who works with the Georgia School Board Association to facilitate the search process during a called RCS School Board meeting on Feb. 21, 2022. More details will be communicated as the system prepares for the search.

The Board also discussed two facilities phase out resolutions. The North Heights building will remain in use by system administrators for office space, specifically the School Nutrition Program. This allows access to a fully equipped kitchen to conduct training with staff. Additionally, the kitchen space in the North Heights building allows for warehouse space and freezer/cooler storage.

Rome Middle School’s current building was discussed for potential repurposing upon the completion of the proposed building of a new Rome Middle School. There is not a definitive plan for this space. All options will be considered as the new Rome Middle School project nears completion.

The Board voted to approve these facilities changes.

Lastly, the Board appointed Pascha Burge to serve as 2022 GSBA Delegate Assembly in Savannah, Georgia on June 11, 2022. The alternate appointed to serve is Jill Fisher.

The Board has also voted and approved the appointment of West Central Elementary School’s new principal, Jennifer Uldrick.

Uldrick has served as the assistant principal of West Central Elementary School since 2018. Before being named as the assistant principal for West Central, she served as the school’s literacy coach starting in 2010. Uldrick holds a bachelors from Clemson University in Recreational Therapy and Tourism Management, a masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Georgia Southern University, an Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont University, and Tier 1 and a current pursuit of Tier 2 Educational Leadership Certificates from the University of West Georgia.

She has a strong background in literacy, a focus the RCS system continually works to improve. Uldrick has also served in leadership positions during her career with Rome City Schools and works closely with the Trust Based Relational Intervention Program and the district’s Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports efforts.

Uldrick’s certifications include:

Educational Leadership – Tier II (anticipated May of 2022)

Educational Leadership – Tier I

Middle Grades Social Science (4-8)

“My time serving West Central over the last twelve years has been a true joy,” Uldrick said after the announcement, “and I am honored to serve West Central in this new capacity as principal. I look forward to cultivating a safe, equitable, and caring environment for our students and their families. I also hope to inspire teachers, staff members, and families to realize their strengths and use them to equip students to grow and become responsible life-long learners.”
