RENOVATED SKATE FACILITY AT ETOWAH PARK TO BE RENAMED THE BOB MOORE KICK FLIP SKATE PARK; RIBBON CUTTING AND NAME DEDICATION CEREMONY SET FOR MARCH 14TH

(Media release from Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation):

A celebration to officially open the renovated skate facility at Etowah Park is set for Monday, March 14 at 4:30 p.m., and the public is invited to try out the new facility and celebrate the past, present and future of skateboarding and cycling in Rome.

Along with the ribbon cutting, the ceremony will rename the facility the Bob Moore Kick Flip Skate Park.

Several members of the community proposed to have the skate park renamed and dedicated in honor of Moore, previous owner of Bob’s Cycle Shop. The family owned and operated store sold bikes and skateboards since the early 1900’s when it first opened on Second Avenue and was known as F.L. Moore’s Cycling Shop.

The ceremony also celebrates the renovation of the park that was part of the 2017 SPLOST project which included $156,500 in park design, new equipment and installation. Georgia Ready Mixed Concrete Association donated more than $18,000 in concrete for the project. High Voltage Prints will be handing out t-shirts, and High Tech Signs has generously donated custom-made signs for the upgraded facility.

“We’re excited to have the Bob Moore Kick Flip Skate Park open just in time for spring with the fresh concrete and new equipment funded by SPLOST,” states RFPRA Director Todd Wofford. “Bob Moore did a lot for the Rome and Floyd County communities, and I couldn’t think of a more fitting person for it to be named after. And we would like to thank Jason Lansdell of High Voltage Prints and Phillip Gaines of High Tech Signs for their time, efforts and generosity.”

Free t-shirts and hot dogs with drinks are available for those in attendance. For more information on the skate park, visit rfpra.com.
