A total of 9,427 new cases of coronavirus and 50 more virus-related fatalities were reported in Georgia on Wednesday by the state’s Department of Public Health.
As reported by the DPH in a media release-
The COVID-19 Daily Status Report reflects more than 9,600 newly reported cases (PCR positive and antigen positive combined). Please be advised this number includes a backlog of cases that were not previously reported by a large laboratory. The majority of these are from January 2022 during the peak of the Omicron surge.
We anticipate additional backlog from this lab will be added in the coming days as DPH receives these reports. In addition to artificially inflating the number of PCR positive tests today, the PCR percent positive will be impacted.
When accounting for the backlog of positive test results, the number of recent case reports and PCR percent positive is consistent with the previous week’s report and does not indicate a true increase in case numbers or percent positivity.
According to the latest update by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 1,935,540 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide since the beginning of this pandemic. The state’s death toll now stands at 31,051. The number of confirmed cases totaled 22,950 in Floyd County, which has additionally had a total of 414 fatalities. Fulton County has had the most confirmed cases in this state with 185,665 and the most deaths with 2,050.
As of Wednesday’s to the vaccine dashboard, 14,582,740 vaccines have been administered statewide; 63 percent of all Georgians have received at least one dose, while 56 percent have been fully vaccinated. Among fully vaccinated Georgians, 40 percent have had an additional dose; 22 percent of residents statewide have had a booster.
