NORTHWEST GEORGIA WINDS TO PRESENT ‘ACROSS THE BIG POND’ ON SATURDAY AT THE ROME CITY AUDITORIUM

(Media release from the Northwest Georgia WINDS):

The NW GA WINDS, Rome’s 60-member community concert band will present its 22nd Celtic gala event on Saturday, April 9, at the Rome City Auditorium.

The free concert (no ticket needed), called ‘Across the Big Pond,’ will begin at 4 pm, and will feature the John Mohr MacIntosh Pipes and Drums from Atlanta, Anna Williamson and her Irish dance troupe, a vocal trio led by Justin Whitfield, and vocal soloist Janet Baltzer.

Dr. Sam Baltzer, conductor, said, “We had to cancel ‘Big Pond’ the last two years because of Covid and so we’re really excited to get to proceed with the event this year. We’ll perform some of the annual favorites like Highland Cathedral and Auld Lang Syne, and also some relatively new pieces like Sailor’s Hornpipe and The Battle of Britain. Anna’s group will dance and also perform on Uilleann pipes, concertina, bodhran, and tin whistle, and this event will be as authentic as it gets on this side of the Big Pond!”

Event sponsors include Georgia Highlands College, Profile Extrusion, Montessori School of Rome, Rome Area Council for the Arts, and many individuals.
