ATLANTA BRAVES SETTLE FOR 2-2 SPLIT IN SEASON-OPENING SERIES WITH LOSS TO CINCINNATI REDS

The Atlanta Braves fell to the Cincinnati Reds 6-3 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a four game set at Truist Park, which resulted in a 2-2 split in the ’22 season opening series between the teams.

Cincinnati took an early lead with five runs during the top of the third inning. Marcel Ozuna got Atlanta on the board with a sac fly that scored Matt Olson in the bottom of the fourth. Cincy got that run back with a solo home run by Tyler Stephenson in the top of the fifth. Travis d’Arnaud and Matt Olson each had solo shots during the bottom of that inning. It was Olson’s first homer in a Braves uniform (for the regular season).

Ian Anderson was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up five runs and three hits, walking five, and striking out one over just two and two-third innings. Hunter Greene nabbed the win in his major league debut, while Art Warren picked up the save for Cincinnati.

The Braves will host the Washington Nationals tonight in the first outing of a three game National League East series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; air time is 6:05 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves were handed their first loss of the season by the Greensboro Grasshoppers 3-2 on Sunday in Greensboro, North Carolina. Rome’s record is now 2-1. Their home opener is scheduled for this Tuesday night at AdventHealth Stadium versus Hudson Valley.
