ATLANTA BRAVES OPEN SERIES WITH WIN OVER CHICAGO CUBS, ROME BRAVES CLOBBER GREENSBORO GRASSHOPPERS

The Atlanta Braves beat the Chicago Cubs 3-1 on Tuesday night in game one of a three-game National League set at Truist Park, which allowed the Braves to improve to 2-2 on their current homestand.

Max Fried picked up the win for Atlanta after giving up just one run and four hits, walking none, and striking out four over six innings. Kenley Jansen was credited with the save. Marcus Stroman took the loss for Chicago.

The Braves opened the scoring with a sac fly from Adam Duvall that brought Marcell Ozuna to home plate during the bottom of the second. But the Cubs tied it up on a solo home run by Ian Happ during the top of the third. Travis Demeritte delivered the tie breaker for the Braves with a solo home run in the fifth. Dansby Swanson made it home to add an insurance run in that same inning, thanks to a fielding error on the part of Chicago.

The Braves and the Cubs will meet again this evening at 7:20 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; air time is 6:05 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves opened up a six-game homestand with a 17-1 victory over the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Tuesday evening at AdventHealth Stadium. The teams will play an Education Day game today at 11 am.
