ATLANTA BRAVES BEAT NATIONAL LEAGUE-EAST LEADING NEW YORK METS IN SERIES OPENER; ROME BRAVES IN GREENVILLE, SC FOR SERIES VS. DRIVE

The Atlanta Braves beat the National League East-leading New York Mets by a final score of 5-2 on Monday night in the opener of a four game series up at Citi Field in Flushing, New York.

Travis d’Arnaud led the charge for Atlanta against his former team with three RBIs to include a one-run double in the top of the sixth inning and a two-run double in the eighth.

Austin Riley got the Braves on the board with a solo home run during the top of the fourth, his seventh homer of the season.

Max Fried was credited as the winning pitcher for Atlanta after surrendering two runs and four hits, walking none, and striking out six over six innings of work. Kenley Jansen picked up the save. Chris Bassitt was charged with the loss for New York.

The Braves and the Mets will face each other in a double header today. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3:10 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; air time is 1:55 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves were off on Monday and will get back into action this evening with the first of six games in Greenville, South Carolina versus the Drive. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
