ATLANTA BRAVES OPEN ROAD TRIP WITH LOSS IN ARIZONA TO THE DIAMONDBACKS

The Atlanta Braves opened a seven-game road trip with a loss out in Arizona to the Diamondbacks by a final score of 6-2 in the opener of a three-game set at Phoenix’s Chase Field.

Spencer Strider took the loss in his first career start for Atlanta after giving up five runs and four hits, walking two, and striking out seven in four and a third innings of work. Zac Gallen picked up the win for Arizona to improve to 4-0 on the season.

The Braves struck first as Ronald Acuna Jr scored on a wild pitch during the top of the first. But the D’backs surged ahead in the bottom of that inning on a three-run homer from Pavin Smith. Austin Riley put Atlanta within a run of Arizona with a solo home run in the top of the fourth; that was his 12th homer of the season.

However, the D’backs tacked on three more runs during the fifth on a two-run double from Ketel Marte and an RBI single from David Peralta and would go on to claim the victory, again, by a final score of 6-2.

The Braves remain in second place of the National League East with a record of 23-26. The Diamondbacks are next-to-last in the NL West at 24-26. Those teams will meet again tonight at 9:40 pm. Listen locally on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; air time is 8:25 pm.
