Communities nationwide marked the annual observance of Memorial Day on Monday, including Rome and Floyd County.
The local activities included military displays throughout the weekend and a ceremony on Monday at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds that was hosted by the Exchange Club of Rome.
Lane Turner, Chairman of the club’s Americanism Committee, hopes that all Americans are aware that Memorial Day is a somber observance intended to pay tribute to those who died in military service to our country.
Floyd County residents also honored the fallen during ceremonies in Shannon on Monday and down in Lindale on Saturday.
