ROME BRAVES OPEN SERIES WITH LOSS TO WILMINGTON BLUE ROCKS

Final score – Wilmington 6, Rome 1

(Media release from the Rome Braves):

The Rome Braves welcomed the Wilmington Blue Rocks to town for the first time in each of the franchises’ history on Tuesday, with both teams needing wins to climb up in their respective divisions.

Roddery Munoz would get the ball for the Rome Braves in his first ever start against the Blue Rocks, coming on the heels of the best start in his professional career against Bowling Green last Tuesday. Wilmington’s Mitchell Parker taking the mound for the Blue Rocks.

Rome would strike first in the bottom of the second, as Bryson Horne would continue his hot streak with a ground ball to right field that would score Drew Campbell. Then as the rain moved in, so did the Blue Rocks’ offense. Darren Baker would drive in Wilmington’s first runs with a single to left, scoring Jordy Barley. Then Yael Antuna would sneak a ball over the right field fence to give Wilmington a three run to one lead.

Israel Pineda, Kevin Strohschein, and Jordy Barley would all drive in runs in the top of the sixth before the rain finally forced the tarp onto the field. Rome would drop the rain shortened contest by a final score of six runs to one, giving Roddery Munoz the loss.

Rome and Wilmington will pick back up tonight for game two, with Rome’s Dylan Dodd on the mound.
