TWO KILLED AND ANOTHER TWO SERIOUSLY INJURED IN FLOYD COUNTY CONSTRUCTION ACCIDENT ON TUESDAY

Two were killed and another two were injured in a construction accident on Old Dalton Road here in Floyd County on Tuesday. According to the Floyd County Police Department –

Floyd County PD responded with other emergency personnel to 4617 Old Dalton Rd at around 9 am on Tuesday morning in reference to an accident at a construction site.

Upon arrival, rescuers found two with significant injuries who were later pronounced dead by Floyd County Deputy Coroner John Hamilton.

Initial reports indicate a flatbed truck was being loaded with asphalt at the top of a steep hill. At some point the brakes are suspected of failing and the truck rolled forward.

While the truck was being loaded up the hill a small excavator was traveling down hill with a flagger on foot providing assistance. That bobcat and flagger were struck by the truck.

Two have been confirmed dead. One airlifted to Erlanger and another transported by EMS to Atrium Health in Rome.

The deceased have been identified as 21-year-old John Hunter Lane of Kingston, the driver of the Bobcat, as well as 19-year-old Cody Hauser of Cartersville, the person in the bucket of the Bobcat.

The construction site was being operated by KGI from Armuchee. OSHA is investigating the incident.
